東京大学発のスリープテック／ニューロテックスタートアップの株式会社ACCELStars（本社：福岡県久留米市、代表取締役：宮原禎、以下「ACCELStars」）は、Portal Innovations.LLC（米国・シカゴ、以下「Portal Innovations」）とアステラス製薬株式会社のSakuLab-Tsukubaが共同で実施する「Portal Innovations × Astellas SakuLab-Tsukuba Bootcamp」に選出されたことをお知らせいたします。

本プログラムは、Portal Innovationsが米国で展開してきたスタートアップ育成モデルを日本に導入し、ライフサイエンス分野における研究成果の事業化を支援するものです。

ACCELStars Inc., a SleepTech/NeuroTech startup originating from the University of Tokyo (Headquarters: Kurume City, Fukuoka; CEO: Tadashi Miyahara), is pleased to announce that it has been selected for the “Portal Innovations × Astellas SakuLab-Tsukuba Bootcamp”, jointly organized by Portal Innovations (Chicago, USA) and Astellas Pharma Inc.’s SakuLab-Tsukuba.

This program introduces Portal Innovations’ proven U.S. model for accelerating early-stage life science startups into Japan, with the goal of supporting the commercialization of cutting-edge research in the life sciences sector.

Portal Innovationsは、米国シカゴを拠点に、ライフサイエンス分野の初期段階スタートアップに対し、研究環境・経営支援・資本を一体的に提供するアクセラレーターです。
今回のプログラムでは、アステラス製薬のSakuLab-Tsukubaと連携し、日本の研究者・起業家を対象としたブートキャンプを開催します。ACCELStarsはその選抜メンバーとして、米国投資家やバイオ・メドテック系パートナーとの共創に挑みます。

Portal Innovations, based in Chicago, is a leading life science accelerator that provides early-stage startups with lab infrastructure, business support, and venture capital in an integrated platform. In partnership with Astellas SakuLab-Tsukuba, the program will host a bootcamp designed for Japanese researchers and entrepreneurs. ACCELStars was selected as one of the participating startups and will engage with U.S. investors and Bio/MedTech partners to explore collaborative opportunities.

ACCELStarsは「睡眠を解明し、新たな医療を創造する」というビジョンのもと、東京大学 大学院医学系研究科教授の上田泰己が2020年8月に設立したメディカル・スリープテック企業です。

東京大学・上田の研究チームで開発した、腕時計型デバイスによって取得するデータから世界最高精度で睡眠および睡眠中の中途覚醒を捉える技術（睡眠測定アルゴリズム）を起点に事業開発を進めており、睡眠データを活用した、企業における健康経営の取組支援、健康保険組合における生活習慣病予防、重症化予防を目的とした、睡眠健康度測定サービス『SLEEP COMPASS』の提供、また、睡眠解析AIを活用した睡眠医療領域におけるアプリケーション・アルゴリズムの開発・提供を進めております。近時は、睡眠デジタルバイオマーカーを活用した、医薬品・医療機器・ヘルスケア機器・サービス開発に向けた支援事業にも着手しており、私たちの提供する技術・サービスの用途及び社会的ニーズの広がりを感じております。

『SLEEP COMPASS』を中心とした睡眠予防サービスについては、産業保健領域における、従業員の睡眠習慣の改善に向けたニーズの高まり等を受けて、多くのお客様からご関心をいただいており、2023年5月のサービスローンチ以降、企業、保険者、自治体等を中心に、導入事業者数は98に達しました。

また、多くの医療機関・研究者との間で、睡眠障害関連疾患に加え、精神疾患、神経変性疾患領域における、共同研究を進めております。国内外の大学・医療機関・企業等との間で、170件の共同研究に関する協議を行い、61件、倫理審査承認の上、研究を実施しております。

そうした活動の中から、医薬品・医療機器・ヘルスケア機器・サービス開発に向けた支援要請の声をいただき、睡眠解析AIプラットフォーム・医療機器の提供にとどまらず、中枢神経のデジタルバイオマーカーの共同研究・開発や臨床研究や治験におけるエビデンス開発サービスも事業として展開を始めております。

ACCELStars was founded in August 2020 by Professor Hiroki Ueda, Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo. The company’s vision is “To elucidate sleep and create new medicine.” It is a medical SleepTech company pioneering science-based innovation from Japan.

Starting from a world-leading sleep analysis algorithm developed by Prof. Ueda’s lab at the University of Tokyo, ACCELStars has expanded its business into corporate wellness programs, lifestyle disease prevention, and medical AI solutions.

Accelstars’ main service, SLEEP COMPASS, launched in May 2023, addresses the increasing need for sleep improvement in workplaces and has already been adopted by 98 organizations, including corporations, health insurers, and local governments.

ACCELStars also collaborates with hospitals and pharmaceutical companies using sleep-analysis AI, conducting more than 170 research discussions and 61 approved studies both in Japan and internationally.

The company is also expanding into digital biomarker development for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and healthtech services—extending its mission from data-driven sleep analysis to broader medical innovation.

Tadashi Miyahara (Representative Director & CEO)

After working in business development at Recruit Co., Ltd., Mr. Miyahara served as CEO of multiple companies before becoming President & CEO of Health Data Platform, Inc. There, he launched “PepUp,” which grew into one of Japan’s largest personal health record (PHR) services. Following the company’s merger with JMDC, Inc., he led the exclusive partnership with Fitbit Japan. He has served as CEO of ACCELStars Inc. since May 2021.

Hiroki Ueda, M.D., Ph.D. (Founder / Board Member)

Dr. Ueda received his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Medicine at The University of Tokyo in 2004. After serving as a Team Leader at RIKEN beginning in 2003, he became a Professor at the Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo in 2013. He concurrently holds a professorship at the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo. His areas of expertise include systems pharmacology and sleep science.
