東京大学発のスリープテック／ニューロテックスタートアップの株式会社ACCELStars（本社：福岡県久留米市、代表取締役：宮原禎、以下「ACCELStars」）は、Singapore SleepWake Centre (Tanglin) Pte. Ltd.（所在地：シンガポール、以下「Singapore SleepWake Centre」）と、睡眠関連機器および関連技術のシンガポール市場展開ならびに今後の東南アジア・アジア地域への展開を見据えた協業に関する基本合意書（Memorandum of Understanding、以下「MOU」）を締結したことをお知らせいたします。

■ MOU締結の背景
世界的に、睡眠時無呼吸症候群や不眠症をはじめとする睡眠課題は、健康、労働生産性、QOLに広範な影響を及ぼす重要な社会課題として認識されています。閉塞性睡眠時無呼吸については、世界で30〜69歳の成人のうち約9.36億人が罹患していると推計されており、不眠症についても世界の成人約8.52億人が抱えていると推計されています。また、睡眠不足・睡眠障害は健康や安全、生産性に悪影響を及ぼし、経済的損失にもつながることが指摘されています。

アジア地域においても、睡眠課題の健康・経済両面での負担は大きく、シンガポールでは国民の27.6%が睡眠に課題を感じているとの報告があり、別の疫学研究では中等度〜重度の睡眠呼吸障害が30.5%と推定されています。ACCELStarsは、こうした巨大な社会課題に対する解決策を提供するうえで、アジアは極めて重要な市場であると考えています。

また、アジアのMedTech市場全体が2030年までに2,250億米ドル（約36兆円）に成長すると予測されるなか、シンガポールは500社超のMedTech関連企業が集積し、アジア太平洋地域のMedTech総生産の25%以上を占めるとされ、市場へのアクセス、研究開発・商業化を支えるエコシステムを備えた、アジア太平洋地域への展開における最適な拠点となっています。

ACCELStarsは、今回のMOU締結をシンガポールを起点とした東南アジア・アジア展開の第一歩と位置づけ、臨床評価と事業基盤の構築を通じて、周辺国への展開を加速してまいります。

■ 協業の概要
本合意に基づき、両者はシンガポールにおける睡眠関連機器・技術の臨床評価、性能検証、臨床現場での実用性評価を進めるとともに、共同研究、技術改良、データ解析、臨床応用、規制対応支援、市場開拓および普及活動において連携します。

ACCELStarsは、機器・技術の提供、解析基盤の運営、データ解析および技術検証を担い、Singapore SleepWake Centreは、解析結果の確認、既存技術との比較評価、臨床現場からのフィードバック、規制対応支援や導入可能性の検討に協力します。

ACCELStars Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Singapore SleepWake Centre

Ltd. (Singapore; hereinafter “Singapore SleepWake Centre”) regarding collaboration on the deployment of sleep-related devices and technologies in the Singaporean market, with a view toward future expansion across Southeast Asia and the broader Asian region.

■ Background of the MOU

Globally, sleep-related challenges — including obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia — are recognized as significant social issues with wide-ranging impacts on health, labor productivity, and quality of life. An estimated 936 million adults aged 30–69 worldwide are affected by obstructive sleep apnea, while approximately 852 million adults globally are estimated to suffer from insomnia. Sleep deprivation and sleep disorders have also been noted for their adverse effects on health, safety, and productivity, leading to substantial economic losses.

In the Asian region, the health and economic burden of sleep-related challenges is equally significant. In Singapore, 27.6% of the population reported poor sleep quality in a national survey, and a separate epidemiological study estimated the prevalence of moderate-to-severe sleep-disordered breathing at 30.5%. ACCELStars considers Asia a critically important market for delivering solutions to these substantial social challenges.

Within this context, Singapore holds a prominent position as a global hub for MedTech, with a cluster of over 400 MedTech-related companies, strong access to Asian markets, and a well-established ecosystem supporting R&D and commercialization. ACCELStars views this MOU as the first step in its Southeast Asian and broader Asian expansion starting from Singapore, and intends to accelerate deployment to neighboring countries through clinical evaluation and the establishment of a business foundation.

■ Overview of Collaboration

Under this agreement, both parties will advance the clinical evaluation, performance validation, and practical usability assessment of sleep-related devices and technologies in Singapore. They will also collaborate on joint research, technology improvement, data analysis, clinical application, regulatory support, market development, and awareness-building activities.

ACCELStars will be responsible for providing devices and technologies, operating the analysis platform, and conducting data analysis and technical verification. Singapore SleepWake Centre will contribute by reviewing analysis results, conducting comparative evaluations against existing technologies, providing clinical feedback, supporting regulatory compliance, and assessing the feasibility of local adoption.

Tadashi Miyahara — President & CEO

After leading new business development at Recruit Holdings and serving as CEO of multiple ventures, Miyahara became President & CEO of Healthcare Data Platform Co., Ltd., where he launched “PepUp,” one of Japan’s largest Personal Health Record (PHR) services. Following the company’s integration with JMDC, he directed Japan’s exclusive partnership with Fitbit. He has served as CEO of ACCELStars since May 2021.

Hiroki Ueda, M.D., Ph.D. — Founder / Director

Professor at the Graduate School of Medicine and concurrently Professor at the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo. Dr. Ueda earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2004 and previously served as Team Leader at RIKEN from 2003, before being appointed Professor at the University of Tokyo in 2013. His research focuses on systems pharmacology and sleep science.
